Fiddler Cast Shines for a Jewish Community in Need of Light

When the cast of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish was asked to perform at the Shine a Light on Antisemitism event in Times Square, they didn’t give it a second thought. Performing songs from Fiddler as well as a Yiddish translation of “God Bless America,” the cast invigorated an audience of folks who desperately needed some levity from the realities of modern antisemitism. Watch the joyous performance and see a thank you letter from Gideon Taylor, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, below.

The cast of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish captured the attention of the busiest street in America with their powerful performance.

“The cast’s performance set a beautiful tone for the evening, as they boldly and publicly displayed pride and joy in our Jewish heritage,” Taylor wrote. “That message, conveyed in beautiful song to the diverse multitude assembled in one of the most iconic places in the world, was deeply powerful and one of the highlights of the evening.

Celebrating Chanukah with our Jewish community spread an inclusive message for the holiday season.
